Betty Gail Reed

Betty Gail Barker Reed passed over into the arms of Jesus on September 29, 2023. The Huntington, W. Virginia native was born March 20, 1936, to the late Rev. Nimrod Barker and Ruby Barker.

In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby D Reed; brothers, Rev. Jack Barker; and son-in-law, Alan Vetter. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Margie Vetter, Penny Bowen, and Barbara Ann Evans (Pat); grandchildren, Jason Bowen, Stephanie Evans Garau, (Mike) Mark Aaron Evans, Andrew Evans (Helen); great grandchildren, Abby Evans, Anna Powers, Fiona Powers, Betty Evans and Samuel Evans, and brother, David Barker.

Betty received education in children ministries in Westerville, Ohio, Huntington, W. Virginia, and EUB church in Point Pleasant, W. Virginia. She was a children’s minister, a Sunday School teacher, and a VBS director because her passion was teaching children about Jesus. Betty was also a neighborhood mom and all the children that gathered in her yard and home adored her. Her last prayer request was for all the little children of the world to come to know Jesus.

Betty played the piano, organ, and the autoharp in church services in W. Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. She ministered by singing in choirs and singing music with her brothers and also her daughters. Betty was gifted with a beautiful voice, and she used it to lift up Jesus. She loved her three daughters and led by example in singing, playing instruments and teaching ministries in church. She was a great encourager and enjoyed her three children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Betty was also involved in card ministry in her later years as well as a prayer partner. She naturally loved people because of her gentle and humble spirit and enjoyed visiting with her friends. Betty was an avid student of God’s Word as well as enjoying reading, writing, drawing, crocheting, singing, and playing her piano. She loved family gatherings which often involved stories of oral traditions, creative bear tales (Appalachian style), and singing with pure harmonies. Betty was a faithful member of One Faith Fellowship. She requested privacy through her sickness and journey Home.

The funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with visitation from 9:00 am until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Brother Garswa Matally will be officiating.

Betty has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions of Gideons at https://www.gideons.org/donate. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
