Betty Joyce Jones

On December 30, 1932, in the Habit Community of Daviess County, Mildred Alice Helm and Thomas David Hughes welcomed in their lives a little dark-eyed, dark-haired bundle of joy and named her Betty Joyce Hughes.

On October 7th, 2025, she was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in whom she put all her faith and trust.

Having lost her father at age three, nurtured by the loving hands of her beloved grandparents Leslie (Pop) and Lettie (Muzzy) Helm and Ed and Lillian Hughes, she learned the lesson of love, faith, trust and honesty that she would carry throughout her life.

Betty was a member of Third Baptist Church and cherished her many friends and never met a stranger.

Her early school years were at Whitesville and later at Owensboro Senior High, where she was cheerleader for the 1949 Championship basketball team.

She met her husband of seventy-five years, Joseph Albert Jones on Easter Sunday, 1950. They were married October 6, 1950, at Hall Street Baptist Church. After graduation in 1951, Betty joined Joe at Fort Bragg U.S. Army base in North Carolina, where he served with the 503rd Military Police Battalion.

Betty worked at G.E. from 1953 until 1957 when she transitioned to remaining at home, lovingly raising their children. After they were in school, she returned to work and began a career in retail as a buyer at S.W. Andersons, Snooty Corner, and later as buyer and manager of Mr. E. Boutique, where she retired at the age of seventy.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betty is survived by her husband, Joseph Jones; son, Michael Joseph Jones; daughter, Shari Lynn (Tommy, Jr.) Tapp; granddaughters, Taylor Rae Tapp (Valentin) Preda, Sydney Lynn Tapp (Beau) Worth; great-grandchildren, Ellie Rain Girten, Nadia Rae Preda, Owen Ray Girten, Vera Lynn Preda, Liam Jones Girten, and Theo Tapp Gentry.
