Betty Ruth Jackson, formerly of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on January 21st in Olney, Maryland, at the age of 85. She was born October 23, 1931in Daviess Co. to the late Homer and Ruth Smith Ford, and was also preceded in death by her brother James and her sister Joanne.
Betty Ruth was born in Owensboro and graduated from Owensboro High School and the Bowling Green Business College. Early in life, she worked for various firms in Owensboro, but spent the vast majority of her career at Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. When Texas Gas decided to open an office in Washington, DC, in 1981, seeking to leverage her keen organizational and administrative skills and unparalleled work ethic, she was asked to move to Washington to become the office administrator, a position in which she remained until her retirement about 10 years later. Upon retirement, she returned to Owensboro where she lived until 2014, when she returned to the Washington area to be near her son and daughter-in-law.
Betty Ruth was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church. With music as one of her passions, and in her view, as much a part of the worship experience as the spoken Word, she sang in the Church choir for many, many years. It was one of the greatest delights of her long and rich life.
Betty Ruth is survived by her son Glenn, and daughter-in-law, Denise of Ashton, MD; four nieces and a nephew whom she loved dearly; many great nieces and nephews; and countless kind and devoted friends.
Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday January 28 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial to follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
