Betty Sue Sugg Gish

Betty Sue Sugg Gish, 77 of Owensboro passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Henderson on May 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Audley B. and Elizabeth Jennings Sugg. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all, Mrs. Gish was the co-founder, along with her husband, Rev. Samuel P. Gish, of the Faith Temple Church in 1970. She was affectionately the "Church's Mother", always ready to tackle any task, meet any need, help heal any wound in her service to her Lord and Savior. She was her family's staunchest defender and caregiver and an awesome cook. Mrs. Gish loved children and was dedicated to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing canasta and bingo, and , was a wonderful dancer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mary Lou Walker and a brother, Royce Jennings.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Rev. Samuel P. Gish; sons, Vincent (Sharon) Gish of Owensboro and David (Karen) Gish of Henderson; a daughter, Rita (Alan) Bivens of Owensboro; grandchildren, Byron Gish, Audrea (Armando) Ortiz, Billy (Kim) Meredith, Dave Gish II, Daniel P. Gish, and Elaine (Nate) Herrell; great-grandchildren, Adriana Ortiz, Demetrio Ortiz, Breanna Meredith, Kellyann Gish, and Clayton Herrell; brothers, George H. Sugg and Hugh Sugg of Henderson; and sisters, Irene Kellin of Smith Mills, and Rebecca Lawrence, Ruth Tyrie, and Mattie "Babe" Littrell of Henderson.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Faith Temple Church with Rev. Alva Wilson and Rev. Jerry Emberton officiating followed by burial in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday and 1-8 p.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
