Betty Mae Couden, 95, of Owensboro passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at her residence in Corydon, Indiana. The Logan, Ohio native was born October 13, 1930, to the late George Emerick and Mary Guess Emerick. Betty graduated from Lebanon (Ohio) High School with the class of 1949. She worked as a secretary at the GE aircraft engine plant in Evendale, Ohio before moving to Owensboro when her husband was transferred with Texas Gas. After her youngest child started school, Betty returned to work in 1965 as a secretary for Wesleyan Heights UMC serving in this capacity for almost thirty years. Betty enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was famous for her Christmas candy and other sweets. Her life revolved around her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids who affectionately called her Mamaw, Nana, and GiGi.
In addition to her parents, Betty was also preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gerald Couden in 2010; daughter, Cheryl Stevens in 2011; brothers, Eddie, Harold, Roger, and Wesley Emerick; sister, Mary K. Frauenknecht.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Daniel Couden and his wife Nancy of Corydon, Indiana; three grandchildren, Leslie Dileo (Dan) of St. Augustine, FL, Stephen Couden (Brandy) of Louisville, and Joel Stevens (Madeline) of Bowling Green; four great grandchildren; sister, Louella Johnson of Lebanon, OH; son-in-law, Tom Stevens also of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 25 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Entombment will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
