Bettie Sue Powers Childers, 80, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County to the late William and Bertha (Davis) Powers. Bettie was a graduate of the Owensboro Vocational School and was a beautician for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church. She was the best mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a great cook and babysitter who enjoyed reading and word puzzles. She married Robert L. Childers on June 26, 1948 and he preceded her in death in February 15, 1998. She was also preceded in death by five siblings, Harry, Ivan, and Richard Powers, Iris Eger and Joyce Duke.
Surviving are her children; Robert L. Childers Jr. of San Francisco, CA., Cheryl Lynn Childers of St. Petersburg, Fl., Sandy (Manuel) Bennett and Susie (Jerry Weikel) Fulkerson both of Owensboro, grandchildren; Jon (Lori) Beach of Richmond, Ky., Marcus (Kellee) Fulkerson of Newburgh, IN., Heather (Jeff) Hardy of Crestwood, Ky., Leslie Fulkerson, Holly Beach, Justin Beach, Logan Bennett, and Rachel Bennett, all of Owensboro, and great-grandchildren; Caitlin and Hayden Beach, Ryker, Sebastian, and Austin Fulkerson, and Ryan and Reagan Hardy.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Andy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The family has requested that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either First Christian or Century Christian Church or the American Diabetes Association.
