Betsy Leibfried Guffey, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, January 29, at her home with her family. She was born on April 25, 1925 in Daviess Co., KY to the late William and Verna Mae Stewart Leibfried. She was a graduate of Daviess County High School and worked in Indianapolis in support of the nation's World War II efforts. A devoted home maker, she also worked many years in cafeterias for Owensboro Public Schools.
From her years growing up on a produce farm, Betsy held a lifelong passion for gardening, gathering and preparing home-grown vegetables. Her baked goods were renowned and prized by her family and her many friends at Yellow Creek Baptist and Seven Hills Baptist Churches. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers and sisters, Carroll, Jerry, and Aubrey Leibfried, Rachel Goin, Yvonne Myers, and Barbara Roach and a daughter-in-law Mabeth Kirkpatrick.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Ira Guffey, her children, Debbie (Joe Bill) Meng, Nancy (Dan) Shuler, Mike Guffey, and Donna Clark Arnold, grandchildren, Ann Taylor Lashbrook, Lucy Lashbrook, Stephen Shuler, Sean Clark, and Ryan Clark, and two brothers, Don (Sue) Leibfried and Jimmy (Judy) Leibfried.
Services will be 12 Noon Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
