Bessie Massey Howard

Bessie "Bess" Howard, 87, Owensboro, ended her journey on earth, Tuesday, August 17, 2010. She was born in Stephens County, Georgia to the late, Robert Lee and Marie Lee (Weldon) Massey. Her life was centered around her faith, family and friends. Bess was a very giving, caring and family oriented person. She was member of Third Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed being a business woman, owning Howard Beauty Shop for over 45 years. She began her career in hairstyling in her early twenties. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed gardening and cooking, as well as enjoying an avid fitness program. Her husband, Gillim W. Howard preceded her in death as well as a sister, Inez Massey and brothers Weldon and R.B. Massey.

Surviving are her children, Sandra (Tom) Pagan of Indianapolis, IN., Brenda Weber of Owensboro, Michael Howard of Elizabethtown, KY., and Tim Howard of Louisville, Ky., grandchildren, Todd Pagan, Leigh Ann (Dwayne) Eldridge, Goeffrey (Kelly) Weber, Matt Weber, Jon (Haley) Weber, Austin Howard, Sarah Howard, nine great-grandchildren, and two brothers, John (Annie) Massey of Huntsville, AL., and G.W. Massey of Greenwood, S.C.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 21,2010 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and after 12 p.m. Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or to the Wendall Foster Center.
