Bertram Ellis (Bert) Ewan, Jr., 85, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died Sunday, December 16, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Ewan had retired as an Iron Worker for Local 103 after 30 years and was an active member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He had served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre Operations, Rhineland Campaign, for his service to our country he earned two bronze stars, combat infantry badge, a good conduct medal and several campaign ribbons. He loved flowers, gardening, and making birdhouses for the Nature Trail in Yellow Creek Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertram Ellis Ewan, Sr. and Sophia Leibfried Ewan, his grandson, Stephen Todd Burden, and his sister, Louise Richardson.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Susie Gough Ewan; his children, Toni Ewan Burden and her husband Steve of Lewisport, Vicki Ewan Singleton and her husband Kenny of Owensboro, Bertram Ellis Ewan III (Skip) and his wife Brenda of Hawesville, and Lorna Ewan Clause of Tucson, Az; grandchildren, Jonathan Singleton (Kellie), Nicole Gorham (Trace), Travis Singleton (Diana), Renee Reel (Mike), Stuart Clause (Aaryka), Alison Franklin (Von), Leah Clause, Nathan Clause; great grandchildren, Keela, Macey, Jonathan II, Austin, Breanna, Cameron, Jimmy, Bradley and Alexis; and a sister, Martha Mae Stewart of Lewisport, Kentucky.
Services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and after Noon on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice or the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
