Bernard J. Payne, 77, of 392 Schafer Camp Road, Pellville died Wednesday June 20, 2001 at his home. He was born February 15, 1924 in Daviess County, Kentucky, son of the late James C. and Lettie Mae Aud Payne.
Mr. Payne retired from the General Electric maintenance department. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW and was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lula M. Payne; four sons, Tom Payne and Allen Payne, both of Owensboro, Steve Payne of Pellville and Paul Payne of Lexington; four daughters, Sheila Abel of Owensboro, Cindy Drake of Philpot, Linda Stevens of Georgetown and Patty Hancock of Beaver Dam; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Johnny Payne of Owensboro and Aloysius Wishy Payne of Louisville; two sisters, Margie Brant of Knottsville and Helen Rose Canter of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 23, 2001 at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church, officiated by Father Carl McCarty. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday June 22, 2001 and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday. Prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
