Bernard A. "Bernie" Mattingly, 56, of Maceo, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, from pancreatic cancer. He was born July 7, 1961 in Owensboro. Bernie graduated from Daviess County High School in 1979 and worked at Castlen Steel – Welding for the last 11 years as a Maintenance Superintendent. He was a very hard worker and was always willing to help anyone in need at any time. Bernie was a very loving father, grandfather, son, and brother.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph P. Mattingly.
Bernie is survived by his daughter, Allie Mattingly; grandson, Alijah Carlisle; a son Issac Mattingly; a stepson, Garrett Mattingly; his parents, William "Bill" Mattingly and his wife Dorothy; his sisters, Stacy Mattingly (Tom Hatch), Mary Froehlich and her husband Danny, and Rose Mattingly Martin; his brothers, David A. Mattingly and his wife Cathy, and John Mattingly; many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends; also his very special friends, Debbie and Jeff Bullington, and Timmy and Debbie Castlen.
A special thank you goes to Matt and Laura Castlen, Angels for Ashley cooking team, St. Pius X burgoo cooking team which consisted of Joe Rhinerson, Sammy Potts, and Bobby Freels, Father Tom Buckman, and Dr. Hodskins and the nurses for the care that they provided for Bernie.
A funeral mass will be 10 AM, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father Tom Buckman officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 until 8PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with prayers at 5 PM, and Thursday after 9AM at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
The family has requested that gifts take the form of memorial contributions to American Cancer Society and Angels for Ashley.
