Bernard Wilbur Duckwall, 84, of 2230 Mayfair Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at Owensboro Medical Health System. A son of the late Rev. George W. and Myrtle Heistand Duckwall, the Greenville, Ohio native attended Otterbein College, where he studied chemistry and math, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific, and joined Green River Steel as a chemist when the mill opened and following 32 years of service retired when it closed. Mr. Duckwall was a faithful member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church since 1953 and of its Open Door Sunday school class, served on the board of Green River Area Federal Credit Union, and for 20 years was a volunteer carpenter for Habitat for Humanity. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Glenn Duckwall, Carl Duckwall, and George Duckwall.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Beatrice Bea Ketron Duckwall; his daughter, Karen Duckwall M.D. and her husband Robert Tobin of Louisville, his son, David Duckwall and his wife Sharon of Owensboro; his grandchildren, David M. Duckwall, Jr. and his wife Melanie, and Alana Duckwall Troutman and her husband Marvin Keith, and Casey Duckwall, all of Owensboro; his great-grandchildren, Houston Duckwall, Jenna Kate Duckwall, and Lexy Troutman; his brother, Marion Duckwall of Muskegon, WI, his sisters, Evelyn Duffield of Greenville, Ohio, Mary Heskett of Springfield, Ohio, and Joan Kemper of Ridgeland, MS; and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Duckwall of Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Services are at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
