Bernard Leslie Bumm, Sr., 79, of Owensboro, died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at his residence. He was born in Rome, KY to the late Robert and Elizabeth Wink Bumm and was a brick mason. Mr. Bumm was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Chapel, was a Kentucky Colonel, had been a realtor and the city building inspector. He was active in politics, loved campaigning and had received the distinguished Democrat of the Year award. Mr. Bumm was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and spent countless hours cooking chicken for catholic picnics and frying fish for the church. He loved sports, especially the teams his grandchildren played on, and he was very fond of an occasional horse race. He had a quick wit and a contagious smile.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Leslie Bumm in 1962; and his siblings, Helen Bumm, Bob Bumm, Nick Bumm, and Bill Bumm.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Nancy Abel Bumm; daughters, Lori Carman and Kara Tipton and her husband Troy; sons, Les Bumm, Jr. and his wife Angela and Brian Bumm and his partner John Duncan; grandchildren, Dallas Tipton (Lorin), Morgan Girten (Austin), Brooke Bumm (Andi Eckstein), Sarah Carman, Steven Bumm, Bryson Bumm and Preston Bumm; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Gracie and Konnor; brother, Martin Bumm; and sisters, Martha Payne (Tom), Dorothy Ward, Betty Booker and Martina Vecchio.
Services will be 10 am Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Chapel. Visitation will be from 4 pm
Until 8 pm on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 am Wednesday at the church. Prayers will be said at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
