Bernard Blandford

Bernard "Elzie" Blandford, 92, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mr. Blandford was born in Daviess County on February 12, 1923 to the late John Randle Blandford III and Agnes Lillian Payne Blandford. In 1965 Bernard opened a Tasty Freeze franchise that later became Blandford's Drive In. He was owner and operator of the restaurant for 41 years. When he wasn't working you could find him in his garden raising tomatoes for the restaurant or barbequing chickens on his backyard pit for family gatherings. An avid UK fan he loved to watch the Cats play whenever he could. Bernard was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of Immaculate Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a daughter, Kelly Marie Blandford; a sister, Eleanor Swanson; and brothers, Coleman, Hubert, Leo, Ambrose, Joe, George, John, Vird, and Damien Blandford.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo McDaniel Blandford; daughter Lisa Jo Burgess (Bruce) of Crestwood KY.; sons, Greg Blandford, Keith Blandford (Carol) both of Owensboro , and Tim Blandford (Debbie) of Philpot; grandchildren, Chelsy Blandford Hendrix (Matt), Tyler Blandford, Dallas Blandford, Madelyn Burgess, Nathan Burgess, and Hayden Burgess; sisters, Marie Ward (Haymen "Sam") and Mary Goetz; and many nieces and nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home

The funeral mass will be held 10 am Wednesday May 20, 2015 at Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3 until 7pm on Tuesday and after 9 am on Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be said at 6pm on Tuesday. Burial will follow the mass at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Cemetery.
