Ben Allen Burns III, 34, of Utica, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was a 2001 graduate of Daviess County High School. Ben was a great athlete and excelled at golf. Following high school he followed his passion and became a fourth generation farmer in the Utica area. He worked closely with his father who came to rely on Ben for many things; including his expertise on computers, spraying, running the dryer, driving trucks and countless other tasks that come with farming. Ben was a loyal John Deere man and was proud of his nice collection of miniature tractors.
He had recently attended Bellevue Baptist Church but considered his home church to be Panther Creek Baptist. Ben enjoyed golfing with his father, especially at Ben Hawes and The Summit. Just this past Saturday, he birdied his final hole of golf. Within the last couple years he became an enthusiastic hunter and spent a good deal of time tinkering with guns and target shooting. Ben was a humble, selfless and outgoing man with a huge heart. He had a special relationship with his step-daughter, Julia, who was like a daughter to him. She'll miss his playful antics and sense of humor. He never met a stranger and will be dearly missed by many.
Ben was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Mary Ellen Burns and Bernard and Bobbie Sublett.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Kalyn Burns; step-daughter, Julia Jones; parents, Ben Allen Burns, Jr and Pam Burns; sisters, Leslie Peveler and her husband Kevin and Mandy Walker and her husband Ben; nieces, Madallyn Peveler, Blaire-Bennett Walker, Annie Powers and Molly Fiorella; nephews, Jake Peveler, Jay Powers, Tate Powers and Griffin Fiorella; in-laws, Jody and Paula Fiorella; sister-in-law, Kelly Powers and her husband Jason; brother-in-law, Terrill Fiorella and his wife Magan; and his beloved dog, Kirby.
