Beatrice Jolly Abshier, 89, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at her home. Born in Ohio County on April 8, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Pearl Taylor Jolly. She retired from General Electric where she worked for more than 30 years and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was on the hostess committee for 43 years. Mrs. Abshier had also been a member of the Thruston Homemakers and enjoyed quilting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Danny Abshier in 2007; sisters, Bertha McCoy, Grace Fitzgerald, Pauline Boyd, Lena Stewart, Ann Presley and a brother, Herman "Buster" Jolly.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Irl R. Abshier, granddaughters, Dane' (Kevin) Galloway and Amanda (Bill) Rogers both of Owensboro, a daughter-in-law, Joyce Stinnett Abshier of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Corey Abshier, Kurt Galloway, Nate Rogers, and Emma Rogers; sisters, Wilma (Jim) Higgs of Raytown, MO and Frances Quigg of Anderson, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 12 noon, Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. David Hocker officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday and after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
