Barbara "Miss Barbara" Stevens Southerland, 77, of Owensboro went to be with her Heavenly Father Sunday, March 10, 2013 at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Daviess County on October 31, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rosa Mae Guthrie and was a member of Greater Vision Baptist Church. Mrs. Southerland was the first female bus driver for the Daviess County Board Of Education in 1969, she retired in 1995 and was affectionately called "Miss Barbara" by all the students who road her bus. After retirement she taught pre-school and kindergarten at Lighthouse Christian Academy. Mrs. Southerland was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, David C. Stevens in 1961; a son, Dennie Stevens in 2007; grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Stevens, Sarah Beth Stevens, Charles Adam Stevens, Olivia Dawn Stevens; a brother Jerry Anderson; and a sister, Margaret Anderson. Also surviving are her babies, Sadie, Foxie Rose and Tia.
Surviving are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, David (Gayla) Stevens and their children, Terri (Brian) Tierney and their children, Richard Tyler Stevens and Samantha Tierney; Clint (Suellen) Stevens and their daughter, Regan D. Stevens; and Valerie Hidenrite; Dennie's wife, LaDonna Stevens and their children, Amie Stevens and Dennie Ray Stevens; Michael (Alisa) Stevens and their children, Forrest Stevens, Greyson Stevens, and their Sweet Angel, Olivia Dawn Stevens; Lisa Southerland Patterson and her daughter, Barbara Briana Southerland; and Thomas Southerland all of Owensboro; a brother, Bill (Jackie) Hill of Evansville; a sister-in-law, Ruth Anderson of Philpot; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Harry Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
