Barbara Jean "Mamaw Jean" Belcher, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Breckenridge County to the late Herman and Pauline Roberts Simmons.
Jean was a loving and dedicated Christian homemaker who always had a smile and never spoke an unkind word. After working for ten years at General Electric, Jean focused on family and was like a grandmother to the countless children she babysat in her home for more than thirty years. She was also very committed to church and volunteered there in many capacities.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ruth Tucker, Shirley Wimberly and Mary McFelia.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Darrel Belcher; a daughter, Linda Zuerner ( David); son, Steve Belcher; grandchildren, Jesse and Lacy Belcher; great-grandchildren, Abby and Amber Zuerner and Cole Belcher; sisters, Sandra Simmons, Dorothy Squires and Lois Carwile (Rudy); brothers, Darrell Simmons (Barbara), James Simmons (Ailene) and Emmett Simmons (Dockie); and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, November 3 at Apollo Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 until 8 PM and Friday after 1 PM, all at Apollo Heights Baptist Church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
