Barbara Lee Burcham Baskett, 93, passed away in Owensboro on March 18, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born December 31, 1919, in Windsor, MO, to the late Robert and Bernice Burcham. Barbara graduated from Windsor High School and attended Central College in Fayette, MO. She was formerly a civilian employee at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, during WWII until her marriage to the late Herman C. Baskett in 1945.
She was an advocate for handicapped children, was a charter member of the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped, and received the Volunteer of the Year award twice. Barbara was named Woman of the Year by the Business and Women's Club and received Service Recognition Awards from the Green River District Council for Exceptional Children. She was the office and volunteer program coordinator for the Spastic Home and School (now the Wendell Foster Campus) for 13 years, and was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Mary Louis Phillips Sunday school class.
She was also preceded in death by a son, William Burcham Baskett and a daughter, Myra Nelle Baskett.
Survivors include her son, Bob Baskett (Kathy) of Louisville; a daughter, Lynn Baskett of Owensboro; granddaughter, Christina L. Adkins (James) of Bradenton, FL; grandson, Robert E. Baskett of Louisville; great-grandson, James Robert Adkins of Bradenton, FL; brothers, L.K. Burcham (Gloria) of Owensboro and Robert Eugene Burcham (Maryam) of Calabasas, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was loved by each, admired by many, and an inspiration to all.
Services will be held at Noon on Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and after 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Yellow Creek Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Wendell Foster Campus.
