Barbadean Mayfield Rhoades, 82, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Daviess County on June 18, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Reatus and Maggie Lee Hudson Mayfield; was retired from General Electric where she worked for 42 years; had worked at Wal-Mart as a greeter; and was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church. Mrs. Rhoades loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; boating and fishing; going to dances; and watching NASCAR and UK basketball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Riley Samuel Rhoades, Sr. and a brother, Kenneth Mayfield.
Surviving are children, Mary Lee Ferrell of Owensboro and Sam Rhoades of Evansville; grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Hatfield of Alaska and Blake Rhoades of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Michael Hatfield and Alleyah Hatfield; longtime friend, Art Edwards; nephews, Wayne (Faye) Mayfield of Bowling Green and Gary (Betty) Mayfield of Owensboro; and nieces, Donna (Jim) Johnson of Owensboro and Becky Ellsworth of Norfolk, VA.
Services are 12 noon Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Craig Bratcher officiating followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
