Avis Bernice Yewell Moye, 95, of Owensboro passed away peacefully Thursday, December 14, 2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones. The Island, Kentucky native was born May 2, 1928, to the late Frank Logan Yewell and Gladie Flener Yewell. Avis graduated from Utica High School, attended Business College in Nashville, Tennessee and worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell. She married the love of her life, George Moye, and resided in Mt Vernon, Indiana until George’s passing in 2005. Avis enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, puzzles, genealogy, stamp & coin collecting, and had a great love for all her pets she had through the years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, G. Voyne Yeiser; brother Frank E. “Doc” Yewell, nephew Alan Yewell, and niece Cynthia “Cindy” Yeiser. Survivors include her brother Elmer L. (Jeanette) Yewell of Paducah, KY, sisters Edna Anderson, and Barbara (Corky) Withrow of Owensboro, sister-in-law Phyllis Yewell, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Avis was grateful for her wonderful caregivers Tabatha, niece Kim, late niece Cindy, and her sister Barbara.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Monday, December 18 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Avis will be laid to rest beside her husband George at Bellefontaine Cemetery Mt. Vernon, IN. with a private graveside service.
