Auretha Carter Bilbro, 97, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Calhoun. Born in Ohio County on November 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Judson and Bernice Miller Carter; was the owner/operator of the Nu Mode Beauty Salon in the Kresge Building; and was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church and the Vota Vita Sunday School Class, often serving as a substitute teacher for the class. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, playing Rook and Canasta, reading her Bible and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Norman Bilbro, Sr. in 2003 and a sister, Ruby Estelle Genet.
Surviving are a son, James Norman Bilbro, Jr. of Browder, Ky.; a daughter, Anna Sue (Bob) Clayton of Owensboro; grandchildren, Mark (Jan) Burns of Winston-Salem, NC, Suzy (Jerry) Skaggs of Philpot, Debby Guinn-Hamilton (Chris) of Owensboro, Cindy ( Mike) Richardson of Powderly, Jimmie ( Kye) Kroger, James Norman Bilbro, III, and Timothy (Paige) Bilbro all of Greenville, and Michael (Donna) Bilbro of Central City; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 in the chapel of the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, Rev. Bill Genet, officiating followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be 12-2 pm. Saturday at the funeral home.
