Aulena Hunt Alexander

Aulena Hunt Alexander, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 21, 2009 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Owensboro. Aulena was born in McLean County on March 15, 1912. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James P. Alexander; her parents, Herbert and Edna Hunt, a sister, Xenia H. Beers, and two brothers, Porter Haley Hunt and Ross Hunt.

Survivors are a son, James P. (Phil) Alexander, Owensboro; a daughter, Janice (James) Chumbler, Lebanon, TN; a sister Joyce (Bob) Brown, Philpot, and a brother, H. Glenn (Tina) Hunt, Memphis, TN. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Cynthia Mathis, Myrtle Beach, SC, Steve (Lori) Chumbler, Lebanon, TN, Mike Chumbler, Smyrna, TN, Jennifer (Bo) Harley, Depauw, IN; and James P. (Jimmy) Alexander, St. Augustine, FL as well as 7 great grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews.

Aulena was an active member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. She was a registered nurse in orthopedics, retiring from Daviess County Hospital in 1974. She graduated from Daviess County Hospital School of Nursing in 1934.

She was an Eastern Star, an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, and did volunteer work at Mercy Health Park, as well as at Lewis Lane Baptist Church and the Roosevelt House. She loved the Lord and her church family, as well as all of her family and her many friends.

Mrs. Alexander will be cremated and Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be a memorial service scheduled for her at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice or the Lewis Lane Baptist Church Building Fund.
