August Arvin

August "Sonny" Arvin, 60, of Owensboro, died September 30, 2013, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Harlan to August Virgil Arvin, Sr, and Elizabeth Jean Durham Arvin. Sonny received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and his master's degree from Webster University in St. Louis, MO, he retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel, served as secretary of the Military Officers Association of America Greater Owensboro Kentucky Chapter, had also served as treasurer of the Joseph "Eddie" Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY and was a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. Sonny was preceded in death by his father, August Virgil Arvin, Sr.

Survivors include his spouse of 44 years, Deborah Arvin; daughters, Althea Loschinskey and her husband Jason of Hurlburt Field, FL and Nicole McDowell and her husband David of Orange Park, FL; grandchildren, Joshua San Miguel, Tyler McDowell, Abbie McDowell, August Loschinskey and Benjamin Loschinskey; his mother, Elizabeth Durham Arvin; and brothers, Richard "Buck" Arvin of Montclair, VA and Dale Harper of Port Orange, FL.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday at Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Private burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville.
