Audrey Opal York, 89, of Owensboro went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 31, 2014 from the Heartford House. Opal was born May 29, 1925 in Patesville, a daughter of the late Walter and Lillian Hardin Jarboe. She began her career at Westinghouse Lighting corporation and retired as a machine operator from North American Phillips. A devoted member of Third Baptist Church, for many years she volunteered in the nursery. Opal enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, puzzles, her church and reading her Bible daily. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray York, a grandson Scott York, a granddaughter Leslie York, and her brother Cletus Jarboe.
Mrs. York is survived by her sons, Rick York and his wife Carla, and Dennis York; her grandsons Jon York and Jeff York and his wife Krissy; two great-grandsons Trevor York and Scott Jefferson York; her sister Reva Daniels, all of Owensboro: and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Mrs. York, officiated by Dr. James Byrd, will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of The Heartford House.
