Audrey K. Durr Mason-Williams

July 6, 1931 — February 8, 2013

Audrey K.Durr Mason-Williams, 81, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Lorain, Ohio to the late William and Mary Lou (Tyler) Charles. At the age of 26, Audrey,her late husband, Rev. John C. Durr, Sr. and their two daughters moved to Owensboro.

Audrey was employed by Davco Rest Home for more than 40 years. While there she worked and studied her way from the position of Kitchen Aid to Licensed Administrator of the whole facility.

Ms. Williams was a longtime member of Center Street Baptist Church where her many activities included serving as President of the Mothers Board and Director of Youth Choir. She was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Independent Ladies and in the 1970's she was active with Altrusa.

Audrey enjoyed reading, was an avid sports fan and loved to spend time with family. She was also known for hosting countless parties and social functions for her extended family of co-workers and residents at Davco.

She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Christian Durr in 2006; a grandson, Clayton McGrath; a great grandson, Markee Slaton; two brothers, Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Ezzard Charles and Edward Tyler and a beloved friend, Brenda White.

Ms. Williams is survived by six children, Mary A. Durr, Valene Durr Tyler (Terry), John Carson Durr (Beverly), all of Owensboro, William Clay Durr (Teresa) of Belleville, IL, Peter Collin Durr (Gayla) and Audrea "Jaymee" Herman (Frank), all of Owensboro; 22 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; dear cousins, Sarah Jo Cooper and Bertha Smit, both of Lawrenceville, GA; a host of nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Nancy McHenry, Deirdre Carbon, Deborah Street, Mecho Bibbs and Alvin Leachman.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 11 at Center Street Baptist Church, 715 Center Street. Apostle Carlos Lamar will officiate. Private interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday after 11 AM at the church.
