Arthur Claude Truman

Arthur C. "Art" Truman, Jr., 85, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015. He was born in Daviess County April 15, 1930 to the late Arthur C. and Zella Mae Williams Truman, Sr. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the "Ushers" Sunday School Class, an Air Force veteran during the Korean War, and a second cousin to President Harry S. Truman. He was Director of the Kentucky Gun Collectors Association for more than 25 years, and a member of the Southern Indiana and Kentuckiana Arms Collectors Associations. He was a Director of the Owensboro Area Museum and author of the book "At War With Ourselves", a Military History of the Daviess County Kentucky Area, 1861-1865". He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, and coached Little League, Babe Ruth, and Senior Babe Ruth baseball for many years. He was a graduate of the Daviess County High School Class of 1948, and in 1947, won the regional YMCA High School Middleweight boxing championship. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen Julia Truman on June 14, 2015.

Survivors include two sons, Chip (Lucy) Truman of Lebanon, TN and Dan (Shawna) Truman of Owensboro, four grandchildren, Katy Truman of Frankfort, Erin Truman of Nashville, TN, Sarah and Daniel Truman, both of Owensboro, a sister, Nancie Truman Ham of Richmond, a sister-in-law, Bobbie Freeman of Owensboro, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 10 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
