Armer Guy Hisle

Armer Guy Hisle, 73, of Owensboro and Naples, Florida passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roger Hisle and Florene Guy Hisle. He was a retired business executive, military officer, and community service leader. A graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in Industrial Administration, Mr. Hisle held a Master of Business Administration from the University of Louisville. Mr. Hisle was with Bell South, now AT&T, for 30 years, retiring as District Marketing Manager for the Western Kentucky area. His tenure with Bell South included positions as directory sales manager for Kentucky, directory compilation manager, manager of the Owensboro, Kentucky Group and the Paintsville, Kentucky Group, Commercial Supervisor of the Winchester, Kentucky District and work with the company's College Management Development Program. During the course of his career, Mr. Hisle oversaw a number of special projects for Bell South.

Mr. Hisle's military career culminated with his retirement with the rank of Colonel , United States Army Reserve, in the Public and Civil Affairs Branches, his final posting being as Chief of Command Information, Public Affairs Branch, of the U.S. Army Forces Command, Ft. McPherson, GA.. He was a graduate of Ft. Leavenworth's Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Mr. Hisle was a recipient of the Major General Benjamin Butler Community Service Award for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Mr. Hisle was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as deacon, elder, and Sunday school superintendent. A member of the Owensboro Rotary Club for 37 years, he served as president and district governor, was a Paul Harris Fellow, and was actively involved in Rotary International's Polio Plus Campaign. In 1985, Mr. Hisle received a special merit award for "Service Above Self" to the club and the community. He was actively involved with Junior Achievement, his many contributions including service as president of Junior Achievement of Daviess, Ohio, and Hancock counties. His served as chairman of the United Way Campaign, president of Downtown Owensboro, Inc, board member of Leadership Owensboro, board member of the Citizens Committee on Higher Education and member of the Kentucky Council for Economic Development. Mr. Hisle was a member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and the Reserve Officers Association of Kentucky.

He is survived by his wife, LeGrand Crooks Hisle; his daughters, Lenda H. Elminger and husband Tom of Brentwood, TN, Nancy H. Daily and husband Jeff of Louisville, and Margaret H. Douglas and husband David of Owensboro; and his grandchildren, Christopher Elminger, Andrew Elminger, Braden Elminger, Matthew Daily, Jennifer Daily, Bradley Douglas, and Mitchell Douglas. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hisle was preceded in death by his infant daughter Karen Crooks Hisle and his sister Lenda Hisle Boyd.

Services, officiated by The Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carroll, will be 10 am Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 3 pm until 6 pm Friday, and after 9 am on Saturday. Memorialization will be in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church or the Paul Harris Fund of the Owensboro Rotary Club.
