Archie William Kittinger

May 1, 1930 — January 16, 2013

Archie William Kittinger, age 82, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at his residence. He was born on May 1, 1930 in Mclean County to the late William Hansford and Edna Galloway Kittinger.

By a stroke of luck he met the love of his life on a blind date in 1949 and 6 months later married Betty Decker in 1950 prior to his enlistment in the Army in 1952; where he served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Kittinger graduated from Sacramento High School and later in life attended Kentucky Wesleyan College and Brescia College. Archie began working at Owensboro Grain in 1954 and remained there for 35 years retiring as secretary and treasurer. After his retirement, he pursued positions at Hampton Inn, Stacy Chrysler and the Owensboro YMCA.

He and his wife have been members of Owensboro Christian Church for over forty years; where he was involved in the choir, Bible Study Class and Ambassadors. Being a fan of Kentucky Wesleyan College it stood to reason that he belonged to the All American Club where he served as President. With the love of the outdoors he and his wife were members of the Friendship Camping Club where they enjoyed camping with many friends. Above all, Archie's favorite hobby was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Decker Kittinger; two daughters, Debra Kittinger Daniel and husband Terry of Hartford, Rhonda Kittinger Harris and husband Dale of Owensboro; one son, Bruce William Kittinger and wife Mary of Owensboro; two grandsons, Matthew Daniel , Brian Harris and wife Jessica; five granddaughters, Jaime Daniel Rafferty and husband Paul, Kristy Kittinger Green and husband Brad, Ashley Kittinger Stewart and husband Jeremy, Laura Harris Mann and husband Craig and Brooke Harris; 11 great-grandchildren, Sean, Shane and Leah Daniel, Gatlin, Macie and Kara Green, Carter and Landon Harris, Beau and Brynna Rafferty, and soon to be, Hayden Stewart and only nephew, Gary Phillips and wife Donna of Madisonville.

At Owensboro Christian Church, a service will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday with pastors, Donnie Thomas, Shawn Green, and Titus Chapman speaking. Interment will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 3:00 until 8:00PM on Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:00AM at church on Saturday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Owensboro Christian Church Dollar Club.
