Dr. Anwar Quader, 75, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Owensboro. He was born in Bangladesh on December 21, 1938 to the late Ebadat Ali Malita and Shaleha Khatun.
He went to medical school in Bangladesh, graduated from the Dacca Medical School at the age of 22. He went on and did a residency in surgery and practiced in the Bangladesh Medical Service until the age of 27 in 1965. He was awarded a scholarship from the Edinburgh Medical College in Scotland, where he continued to study general surgery. Upon graduation, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, a membership that he maintained until his death. After graduation from there, he moved to Norwich, England to study orthopedics. In 1972, he immigrated to the United States. He practiced orthopedics in Detroit, prior to moving to Madisonville, Ky in 1973. He made his final move in 1977 to Owensboro, Ky, where he opened a practice specializing in orthopedic surgery. He practiced independently until his retirement in 2011. He was very proud of practicing medicine for more than 50 years as well as being a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
In addition to practicing orthopedics, he had many other interests. He was an avid tennis player. He loved boating and spending time with his family at Green Turtle Bay at Lake Barkley. He loved camping with his family across the United States. He spent many enjoyable hours mowing and farming on his farm in Ohio County. After he was diagnosed with cancer, he made the trip of a lifetime in 2012. He and his wife, Mary, drove to Alaska.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Mary Bruce Cook Quader, a daughter, Natalie Skillman and husband Jonathan, a son, Tarik Quader, a sister, Bulbul Ahmed, a nephew, Istaq Ahmed, and his caregiver, Laura Ryder.
Private services were held and burial was in Old Mill Cemetery in Ohio Co., KY. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory were in charge of arrangements.
