Anthony "Tony" Wheatley, 71, of Owensboro, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. Born June 27, 1937 in Hancock County, he was the son of the late Franklin and Sylvia Gray Wheatley; was retired Home Folks Housing following years of ownership of Tony's Mobile Home Service; was actively involved in management of Woodlawn Mobile Home Park co-owned with his wife; and was a member of St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church. Mr. Wheatley enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, UK basketball, carpentry, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by children, Lisa Katherine and Robert Eric Wheatley and brothers, Freddie, Terry, Cecil and Ricky Wheatley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, "Mama Rose", Rose Miriam Boarman Wheatley; sons, Dwayne (Sherry) Wheatley and Chris (Marsha) Wheatley of Owensboro; daughters, Susan Damin of Owensboro and Laura ( Darryl) Clark of Bremen; grandchildren, Mahaleigh Wheatley, Krystal Shelton, Nick, Travis, Noah, Jonah, and Collena Rose Damin, Toni, Danielle, and Mandi Clark, and Jarrett, Katelyn, and Samuel Wheatley; brothers, Leonard Wheatley, Dennis ( Martha) Wheatley, John (Marlene) Wheatley and Tom ( Karen) Wheatley all of Hawesville, and Mike ( Julie) Wheatley of MS; and sisters, Ann Wathen of Owensboro, Ruth (Carl) Schaefer of PA, Margaret (Bernie) Kenjesky of NY, Rosalie (David) Sims of VA, and Teresa (Noel) Ballard of Knottsville.
Services are 10 A.M. Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Pius Tenth Catholic Church followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday and after 8:30 a.m on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. The Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
