Anthony Earl Coomes

Anthony Earl Coomes, 97, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at the Carmel Home. He was born March 5, 1929 in Daviess County to the late J. Watt and Hattie Hodskins Coomes. Anthony lived at the Carmel Home where he attended mass and was retired as a civil engineer with A. T. and T. He received his degree in civil engineering from the University of Kentucky. Anthony was a U. S. Navy veteran and an avid tennis player. He loved traveling abroad having visited a number of countries including the Holy Land.

Anthony was also preceded in death by nine sisters and brothers, Ann Byrne, Edwina Coomes, Pauline Sublett, Elizabeth Allen, F. A. Coomes, Joe Coomes, James Elmo Coomes, Frank Coomes, and Henry Coomes.

Surviving is a sister, Laura “Dolly” Baughn of Evansville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 1, at the Carmel Home chapel. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of the service Friday at the Carmel Home.
