Anna Rhea Gray

August 30, 1929 — November 7, 2017

Anna Rhea Gray, 88, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Carmel Home. She was born August 30, 1929 in Ohio County, KY to the late James Aubrey and Virginia Gillim Westerfield. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Duff Gray in 1991, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Wendell Baxley of Hartford and June and Bill Boyd of Madisonville, and her mother-in-law, Mamie Gray of Owensboro.

Anna was a licensed cosmetologist, a co-owner of the Mr. Jim's Beauty Shop on Carter Road, and completed her career as a Kentucky State Cosmetology teacher at the Daviess County Technical School Campus. She received her B. S. degree in Vocational Education from Murray State University. She loved teaching and was especially proud that her students always passed the state cosmetology license exam. Anna was a member of the Hartford Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ohio County Quilting Club for many years. She belonged to Masonville United Methodist Church and participated in all activities including the church quilting group.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Sharon NeSmith and husband Gene of Owensboro and her son, Jeff Gray and his wife Teresa of Whitesville. Her grandchildren are Mike Stewart (Teresa) of Orlando, Florida, Denise Mattingly (Tim) of Pellville, and Susan Howard of Whitesville. She especially enjoyed keeping up with her great grandchildren, Allison and Mason Mattingly, Tyler and Lauren Howard, and Jay and Mikey Stewart.

Anna had many special friends over the years and she kept many of those memories. She loved get togethers with family and friends and never hesitated to comment on their hair. Family teased her that when she met God in Heaven, she would probably tell him he needed a haircut. Her family's friends were her friends too, and many knew her as Momma Gray. We want to thank the Carmel Home and their staff who cared for her and shared their many daily stories always beginning with "I love your Mom and she is so funny".

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 10, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
