Sister Ann Miriam of the Hearts of Jesus and Mary, C.P., (Ann Mills), 89, died April 22, 2015, in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Owensboro, on October 28, 1925, to the late Leo Kendrick and Helen Lingang Mills, Sr. Ann Miriam was baptized at St. Paul's Catholic Church (now St. Joseph and Paul's Catholic Church) in Owensboro and graduated from St. Francis Academy in Owensboro. After graduation from Nazareth College in Nazareth, KY, she worked as a medical technician at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville.
She entered the Passionist Monastery in Owensboro in 1953, professing her first vows in 1955, and perpetual vows in 1958. Known and loved for her ready wit, her joy in all things God had created, as well as for her down-to-earth insight, Sr. Ann Miriam served her monastic community in various ways throughout her 62 years as a Passionist Nun.
Always close in spirit and prayer to her family members, she was also preceded in death by her older brother, Randall Mills and two brothers-in-law, Joe Bissmeyer and Tony Rhodes.
Sister is survived by three brothers, Rev. Joseph Mills, Jack (Doris) Mills, and Bill (Gully) Mills; two sisters, Kay Rhodes and Molly Bissmeyer; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation at the Passionist Monastery, 8564 Crisp Road, Whitesville, Friday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Prayers will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Monastery. Funeral Mass at the Monastery, Saturday, 10 a.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Mass offerings, memorial offerings to the Passionist Nuns, or contributions to the Carmel Home or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
