Anita Faye Travis, 89, of Owensboro, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on September 19, 2025.
She was born on February 4, 1936, in Ohio County, Kentucky, to the late Jake and Thelma Brey Shelton. A graduate of Saint Anthony School in Bearhill, Anita began her career at General Electric, where she worked until her retirement.
Anita lived a life filled with faith, family, and simple joys. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church, where she served as an Eucharistic minister, a reader, and gave her time to parish events, especially the picnic.
In her younger years, Anita loved playing softball and was a pitcher in a local women’s league. She also enjoyed gardening, tending both vegetables and flowers. At home, she was known for her warm heart, her famous fried chicken, and her gift for bringing loved ones together around the table. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, playing an active role in their lives and cherishing every moment with them.
Anita’s compassion extended beyond people. She had a special love for her cats and dogs, often cooking for them meals that rivaled those she prepared for her family. Above all, Anita was selfless, always placing the needs of others before her own and leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and love.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Lloyd Travis; daughter, Shelia Gunterman; grandchildren, Melissa Wedding and Traves Glen Travis; and siblings, Thelma Marksberry, Beverly Kelly, William Shelton, Helen Atherton, Doris “Dottie” Theriaut, and Linda Samperi.
Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Harold “Lee” Wigginton Jr. (Dee), Sandy Flores, Angela Zamora, Angie Peters, Jeremy Travis, Savannah Travis, Stacy Lawson, and Amy Gore; brother, Shirley Dean Shelton; sister, Brenda Howard; step-sons, David Shreve (Mary), James Travis (Sandy), Billy Travis (Kathy), Louis Travis (Cathy), Terry Travis, and Scott Travis (Selena); 15 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass for Anita Travis will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers at 6:30 pm and again from 8:30 pm to 9:30 am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow Mass at Resurrection Cemetery.
