Anita Elizabeth Mitchell, 89, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her home. She was born in Owensboro to the late Max Edward and Elizabeth Catherine Norris Keller.
Mrs. Mitchell was a dedicated homemaker and a lifetime member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church in Stanley. Her involvement there included the choir and many hours of volunteer work in the church and school. She was a recipient of the Sophia Award. Anita was passionate about horticulture, a Master Gardener and member of the Owensboro Herb Society. Her garden was one of the Garden Tour sites and she was a volunteer in the development of the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden.
Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Clement Lee Mitchell in 2001; sons, Joseph Edward Mitchell in 1985 and William Anthony Mitchell in 2013; and seven siblings.
She is survived by children, Vicki Lee Stogsdill (Jack) of Owensboro, Martin Estil Mitchell (Becky) of Owensboro, Elizabeth Jill Gerring (Pat) of Lexington, KY, Sally Ann Martin (Bruce) of Owensboro, Mary Jane Bray (Mike) of Nashville, TN, John David Mitchell (Cathy) of Owensboro and Catherine Louise Lindemann (Charley) of Ludlow, KY; grandchildren, Jamie Stogsdill, Lyndsay Booker (Josh), Jacqueline Stogsdill, Beth Merchant (Altaf), Andrew Mitchell (Melissa), Joseph Mitchell (Kate), Sam Gerring, Katie Gerring, Jake Martin (Tori), Lauren McCrary (Kris), Jesse Martin, Lee Martin (Jessica), Hannah Martin, Abby Bray, Amy Bray, Mitchell Bray, Alex Mitchell, Maggie Mitchell, Katelyn Mitchell; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bettie Hall of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be 10 AM Friday, January 5 at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Stanley. Fr. Jegin Puthenpurackal will officiate with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 until 8 PM, with prayers at 7 PM, and Friday after 8:30 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
