Anita P. Coons

Anita P. Coons, 81, of Maceo, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Anita was born in Daviess County, one of four children of the late Hubert and Edith Roberts Potts. She attended Maceo School and graduated from Daviess County High School. While in school she attended a Pound Party that was also attended by Truett Coons. They met, they talked, and that was it. They married May 15, 1954. After their children were in school, Anita took a job as a school bus driver. Conveniently, among her passengers were all of her children. After 10 years, she became a rural mail carrier and after 20 years retired from the United States Postal Service. She was a former member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and has been a longtime member of Yelvington Baptist Church. Anita truly loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her free time was spent fishing with Truett, reading, and working puzzles. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Peggy McDaniel.

Anita is survived by her husband of 61 years, Truett Coons; her children Ernest Truett Coons, Jr and his wife Cathy of Owensboro, Randy Coons and his wife Vicky of Hartford, Scott Coons and his wife Theresa and John coons and his wife Carol Sue, all of Owensboro, and Janice Coons of Maceo; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and her brothers Darrel Potts and his wife Peggy of Lewisport and Sammy Potts of Maceo.

The funeral service for Mrs. Coons will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
