Mr. and Mrs. James Tinius
James M. Tinius and Alberta Tinius, 88 and 85 respectively, of Owensboro, concluded their 65 years of married life with their deaths at their home on the 7th and 8th of May 2008. Active in their church, their community and through public service, Mr. and Mrs. Tinius faithfully shared their lives with each other.
Services for Mr. and Mrs. Tinius, officiated by the Rev. Dr. James Byrd, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 p,m. Sunday. Eastern Star and Masonic Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
Alberta Tinius, 85, of Owensboro died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at her home. Born in Daviess County, a daughter of the late William Edgar Boyd and Zula Boling Boyd, Mrs. Tinius was a graduate of Daviess County High School, a member of Third Baptist Church and its AFC Sunday school class, Past Worthy Matron of Acacia Chapter #46 of Eastern Star, Past Grand Electa and Past Deputy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Kentucky, Order of the Eastern Star, and for many years had worked in the office of the Property Valuation Administrator. Mrs. Tinius also served as a deputy sheriff and deputy jailer for Daviess County. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needle work. She was followed in death by her husband of 65 years, James M. Tinius, on Thursday, May 8, 2008, and was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Carter Ijames and a son-in-law, Bruce Rose.
Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Rose of Owensboro and Pamela Segars and her husband Robert of Buford, GA; her grandchildren, Angela Rose, Meredith Nantz, Lauren Petron and her husband David, and Natalie Drake; her great-grandchildren, Samantha Rose and Cole Rose; her sisters, Louise Hickey of Corbin, KY and Grace Bell of Ensor; and her brother, Clyde Raymond Boyd of Catawissa, MO.
James M. Tinius, 88, of Owensboro died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at his home. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late William Orland Tinius and Edith Henning Tinius, he graduated from Daviess County High School and the Lincoln Nebraska Aeronautical Institute. Mr. Tinius served the local community as Deputy Sheriff under Morton Estes, as Daviess County Jailer for eight years, as Daviess County Sheriff for four years, and as the Daviess County Property Valuation Administrator for sixteen years. Mr. Tinius was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a flight engineer and flight chief in seven major campaigns in Africa, Sicily, Normandy, and the Rhineland in Germany, for which service he received the European Theatre Ribbon and the Air Medal with seven Battle Stars. He farmed for many years, had been a member of the Kentucky Property Valuation Administrators Association and the International Association of Assessing Officers, and served as County Chairman of the Democratic Campaign in 1960. A member of Third Baptist Church and its Berean Sunday school class, Mr. Tinius was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 & 8, the Ensor Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons and Past Worthy Patron of Acacia Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alberta Tinius, who died Wednesday, May 7, 2008, and by his brother, William Harold Tinius, his sisters, Louise Sublett, Thelma Camp, and Helen Ray, and his son-in-law Bruce Rose.
Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Rose of Owensboro and Pamela Segars and her husband Robert of Buford, GA; his grandchildren, Angela Rose, Meredith Nantz, Lauren Petron and her husband David, and Natalie Drake; his great-grandchildren, Samantha Rose and Cole Rose; and his sister, Doris Simpson of Madisonville.
