Alvah Junior Smiley

June 24, 1932 — August 29, 2014

Alvah Junior Smiley, 82, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away Friday, August 29, 2014. Junior was born in Ohio County to the late Sam Smiley and Betty Kirk.

Junior served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the U. S. S. Diamondhead. He also worked for the Ohio County School Corporation and as a self employed plumber before he retired.

He was a proud member of the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, a brother of the Masonic Lodge in Pleasant Ridge, and a member of the American Legion. For years he loved playing the guitar and singing at local churches. He loved his family and friends, and he always had a ready smile and story to share. He was a joy to one and all. Junior knew and loved the Lord.

Junior was preceded in death by a son, William (Billy) Smiley; a daughter, Angela Smiley Mitchell; Brothers, Vernon Smiley, Marvin Smiley, Selden Smiley; and a sister Connie Herode.

Junior is survived by Daughters, LaTisha Smiley McLaughlin, of Owensboro, Debbie Carnine, of Pahrump, Nevada, and Gail Yohn, of Phoenix, Arizona; Sisters, Delona Fulkerson of Beaver Dam, Kentucky and Phyllis Boone of Pleasant Ridge, Kentucky; Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and cousins.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial Services to be announced at a later time.
