Alma "Buddy" Langston, 89 formerly of 2920 Yale Place (Roosevelt House) for 18 years, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Reynolds Station, Ky. She was born in Birmingham, Ala. to the late Columbus Alexander and Minnie Lee Sorsby Johns. She was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and had retired in 1981 after 30 years with the Donovan Coffee Co. in Birmingham. While residing at the Roosevelt House, she had been a monitor and also enjoyed working with the Hospitality Club and doing projects for others. She affectionally known to family and friends as "Buddy" and her greatest pride and joy was her family and she loved to tell others about them. She enjoyed making crafts and fishing when she had a chance to go. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Maryland Nail on Sept. 1, 1943 and William McKinley Langston on April 12, 1965, and three brothers and sisters, Mable Pilkinton, Myrtle Melton, and Ernest Johns.
Surviving are a daughter, Eleanor Jane Nail Vickers Wells and husband David of Reynolds Station, Ky., two sons, James Richard Nail and wife Carrie of Morristown, Tenn. and Charles Edward Langston and wife Toni of Lithia Springs, Ga., seven grandchildren, William Charles Vickers, Jr., David Wayne Vickers, Rebecca Jane Keller and husband Jeff, Michelle Nail, Richard Lee Nail, Victor Hedstrom and wife Michelle, and Erica Clair, 10 great grandchildren, Christopher, Teena, Sarah, Ben, and Molli Vickers, Jessy Nail, and Austin Stuban, V. J. and Christopher Hedstrom, and Ethan Clair, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 15, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham on Monday. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
