Alma A. Hanberry, 87, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday April 22, 2026, at Baptist East Hospice in Louisville. She was born December 16, 1938, in Owensboro, KY to the late Hobart and Garnett Young Hanberry. She was longtime member of Beechwood Baptist Church, and a steadfast Southern Baptist. Alma retired from a Southern Baptist sponsored orphanage that found adoptive parents for children in need.
Alma was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and volunteered countless hours for the church. She notably was involved with Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child, and Samaritan’s Purse. Alma loved her family. She adored her nieces and nephews, who had the opportunity to care for her in her later years. Alma somehow always remembered all the niece’s and nephew’s birthdays. She enjoyed chatting with family, as long as they didn’t call her during a UK football or basketball game. Her companion during these last several years was her faithful Chihuahua, Babydoll.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Carrol Hanberry; sisters, Joyce Faith and Edna Burton; and a nephew, Jim Burton.
Alma is survived by her sister, Rachel Reavis; nieces and nephews, Darlene Wells, Brian Reavis, Stefanie Boers, Patricia Smeathers, Robin Potter, Jeff Burton (Patty), Kim Burton, Nancy Howard (John), Laura London Hanberry Williams (Bill), and Carolyn Price. She is also survived by a number of Great and Great-Great nieces and nephews.
The committal service for Alma will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Rosehill Cemetery Chapel, with burial to follow.
