Alma Weller Gilmore died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at the Carmel Home a few days before her 108th birthday. Born in 1895 near Taffy in Ohio County, she moved to Daviess County with her parents, George and Alice Ford Weller around 1904 and grew up in the Whitesville area. After attending Bowling Green College, she taught in several one-room schools in Daviess County, including Bon Harbor Hills and West Louisville. She quit teaching and married one of her students. Together they ran a filling station and mechanics shop and small farm in Ensor. She was a devout nondenominational Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Gilmore and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their decendants.
Funeral services are 2 P.M. Saturday at the Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from Noon to 2 P.M. on Saturday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Carmel Home.
