Allen Thomas Tanner, first born son of Alney C. and Jeanette Johnson Tanner, born March 20, 1928 in McLean Co., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, January 21, 2014. As a young 14 year old boy, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and was especially close to his Maternal grandparents, Allen "Old Dad" and Lillie "Grand Mam" Johnson, who taught him life's lessons. Allen T. Tanner was a devoted member of the Walnut Memorial Baptist Church Family for over 45 years. He worked most of his 85 years in road construction, operating heavy equipment as a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #181 for over 56 years. He worked first for O. L. Depp Construction, then was superintendent of Mid America Terminal, and lastly was with Parkway Construction Co. of Greenville until October of 2013. Allen will always be remembered as reliable, trustworthy, and a man of High standards. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette Johnson Tanner in 1976, his father, Alney Tanner in 1958, two sisters, Dorothy Raye Martin in 1972 and Winona Faye Parker in 2013, and his baby brother, Rowan Ford Tanner in 2011. Also preceding him in death was his first love, Jean Carroll Tanner in 1987, who was the mother of his three daughters, Connie, Celia, and Vickie. His 2nd wife, Pauline Carrico Tanner died in 2011, the mother of his two stepsons, Jim and Alen Carrico, and also lost a son-in-law, Ernest Young in 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Connie Jean (James T.) Lee, Celia Jeannette (James R.) Terrell, and Vickie Lynne Young, all of Owensboro, two granddaughters, Kristen Nicole (Donald) Bayless and Jennifer Marie Terrell, three grandsons, Tellie Allen (Holly) Terrell, Justin Stephen (Corinne) Young, and Brad Michael Young, all of Owensboro, three great grandsons, Tanner Lee Bayless, Tyler James Terrell, and Jason Smith, and a great great granddaughter, Sofia Grace Terrell, all of Owensboro, two stepsons, Jimmy (Linda) Carrico of Owensboro and Gale Alen (Holly) Carrico of Louisville, two stepgranddaughters, Toni (Monty) Cross of Owensboro, and Heather (David) Lush of Louisville, four step grandsons, Chris (Amy) Carrico of Cincinnati, OH, and Adam(Youlanda) Carrico, Steven Carrico of Louisville, and Daren Carrico of Lexington, seven step great grandchildren, Nick and Lauren Cross of Owensboro, Lilly Carrico, Abby Hicks, and Wyatt Lush, all of Louisville, and Jake and Zack Carrico of Hamilton, OH. Also surviving are one brother, Delbert N. (Donna) Tanner and one sister, Edna Earl Bivins, all of Owensboro, and a beloved sister-in-law, Irene Tanner of Millsteadt, IL.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 24, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Thursday and after 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
