Alfred C Kirkland, 90, passed away Saturday morning at Windsor Gardens Assisted Living Home in Georgetown, Kentucky. He was born in Panther, Kentucky, the son of Ira and Henry Kirkland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjoe Gardner Kirkland.
Alfred was business manager for the Owensboro Oilers in the 1940s. After leaving the manager's position, he went to work at Sears, where he worked for forty two years. During that time he served as large appliance manager and later as credit manager. He retired from Sears in 1982.
Alfred was a veteran of the armed services having served forty-eight months in the army during World War II.
Mr. Kirkland was a member of the Settle Memorial Methodist Church and delighted in attending his Sunday Morning Class, the Open Door. He also was a member of a Wednesday library club, the No Name Club, until his move to Georgetown fourteen months ago. Alfred was a member of the Owensboro County Club for over fifty years.
Mr. Kirkland is survived by two sons: William M. Kirkland and wife, Eve, of Georgetown and Gardner Kirkland of Owensboro. He was preceded in death by his brother C.M and his sister Christine.
Services are 10 A.M. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday evening April 21 from 4 to 7 pm and after 9 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
