Albert W. Reader

Albert Wesley Reader, 93, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. Born December 17, 1914 in East Aurora, NY, the son of the late Robert W. and Hellen Nieman Reader, he was a flight test engineer for the former Curtis Wright Aircraft Company prior to World War II. During the war, he served with the Army Air Corps as a flight engineer during campaigns in North Africa, Italy, and Germany. Following the war, Mr. Reader owned a grocery store before becoming a carpenter in the commercial construction industry. His interests included camping, gardening, landscaping, and carpentry, his last project being the construction of his own wheel chair ramp at the age of 92. A member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church, he loved the Lord Jesus and was faithful in sharing his Savior with others. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Milly" Reader in 2004 and a sister, Marjorie Neubauer.

Survivors include his sons, Dr. G. Scott Reader and his wife Carol of Owensboro, Eric Wesley Reader of Brown's Summit NC; his daughter, Rebecca Holmes and her husband Tom of West Falls, NY; his grandchildren Cheryl Johnson, Michelle Reader, James Reader, Andrew Reader, Kim Cummings, Teague Holmes, Justin Holmes, Wesley Reader, and Ryan Reader; his great-grandchildren, Katie Johnson, Lucien Reader, and Gracie Cummings; and his sisters, Mary Quinn, June Taylor, and Gwen Bateman.

Services are at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Walnut Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, VA. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Widow's Mite of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church.
