Alan Ebelhar

David Alan Ebelhar, 74, of Owensboro passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western KY.

Born to Hugh and Naomi Ebelhar of Sorgho, he spent his youth working on the family farm and became a true outdoorsman. Alan began his career as a chemical operator in 1971 and retired after 47 years. He married his wife Sandy in 1972. Alan and Sandy proudly raised two beautiful children. They were later blessed with two granddaughters whom he adored. His pride beamed when they were blessed with great-grandson, KeyShaun, his buddy and fishing partner.

When he wasn't in his garage tinkering or home repairs with a flare, he took advantage of every opportunity to be dealt in at the poker table, gather at Deer Camp, travel, visit family, cook some of the best BBQ this town has ever tasted, and fish for the biggest catch at Rough River. He enjoyed UK basketball, NASCAR, hunting, and boating. Alan was a fun-loving husband and father, devout parishioner of Blessed Mother, and a dedicated member of their cooking team.

Alan never sat around waiting for life to come to him. He continuously found a reason to strive for more, to do more, and to love more until the very end.

Among those awaiting his heavenly arrival are his parents, Hugh and Naomi Ebelhar, his younger sister, Jan Mullican, and his nephew, Christopher Wimsatt.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sandy Miller Ebelhar, children Holly and Bradley (Robin), granddaughters Haley and Hannah, his partner in crime, KeyShaun, surviving siblings,

Connie (Bud) Calhoun, Tommy (Janet) Ebelhar, Mary Ann Monarch, Christa (Tony) Hundley, Brent (Judy) Ebelhar, Terry (Sabrina) Ebelhar, Joy Wimsatt, brother-in-law Ricky Mullican, and Jeannie (Terry) Millay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and in-laws.

The funeral Mass for Alan will be 12 PM Saturday, November 29, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9 AM until time of Mass at the church. Burial will follow at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery.
