Maple Mount Sister Agnes Cecilia Speak, 100, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Dec. 15 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 80th year of religious life. She was a native of Irvington.
Sister Agnes Cecilia was a housekeeper much of her life, beginning in 1932. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and a deeply prayerful woman. She served at St. Anthony Convent, Browns Valley (1937-39), St. Mary Home, Owensboro (1950-52), St. William Convent, Knottsville, (1952-53), and Blessed Mother Convent, Owensboro, (1972-1995). She also served at Mount Saint Joseph in the dairy (1946-47), and laundry (1948-50). She ministered elsewhere in the Owensboro Diocese, the Louisville Archdiocese, and in New Mexico. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1995.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Friday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Motherhouse cemetery.
Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
