Adrian Ray Evans Sr., 92, of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Born on January 18, 1934, in Daviess County, Ray was the son of the late Dyson and Oda Evans.
A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Ray served with honor during the Korean War, a time that shaped his lifelong love of the sea.
Just hours after his death, his loving wife of 37 years, Jo Ann Evans, passed away. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandy; his son, Adrian Ray Evans, Jr., his former wife, Marilyn; two brothers; and four sisters.
He is survived by his children: Frank Evans, Bonnie Petosa, Linda Green, Kaleina "Karen" Needham, 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Ray's journey was not only marked by his military service but also by his creativity and resilience. He was an avid artist, sobriety advocate, and a published author, having written several books about his experiences with alcohol and drug addiction. He dedicated much of his life to helping others navigate their own storms, always with a kind word and a well-timed joke to lighten the mood. Ray had a way of reminding everyone around him that life is hard, but a good laugh and a positive attitude go a long way.
Now, Ray has sailed on one final mission, and though we will miss him deeply, we know that his spirit, his humor, and his legacy will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Fair winds and following seas, Ray.
In keeping with his wishes to be cremated and his love for the open water, Ray's children will release his ashes into the warm turquoise waters of the Bahamas.
